Hope
It all happens in a country which has every potential to offer the wisdom of civilization to the entire world. Our industrial leaders, policy makers, thinkers and progressive farmers and scientists know that it is that wisdom that can sustain peace and prosperity in the world. Is there any way out to restore the pride of our country? There is. If not all, at least the leaders of industries, farm sector, service sector and policy makers have the key responsibility to play. Encourage any initiative that helps protect our common natural resources.
Any such initiative which revives the age old wisdom of nature abiding culture needs to be encouraged and supported. Any initiative that creates new insight and awareness about the natural resources need to be supported. Investing in river cleaning project is good… but inculcating in the young minds the responsibilities of restoring and protecting the small streams and rivulets are better. Because, there is no river without the streams. Without the responsibility of managing the streams there are no rights available to claim the waters of the river.
Welcome for Partnering
If such initiative is carried out in river basins would you be happy to support? Right now there is one going on in a big river basin Cauvery. We do hope this would not only ignite your interest but also draw your passion to be an active partner in this initiative. We strongly believe that only your support would prove that this simple effort is an innovative action for ensuring peace and prosperity.

Highlights of the plan
- Thousand children are going to have an assessment study on the status of the common natural resources from Kodagu to Poompugar – from the birth place to the point where the River Cauvery enters into the sea. About the children: They have never drunk Cauvery water. Their parents have never used a single drop of Cauvery water to make profit. All of the children hail from families that struggle to live a decent life. Hundreds of them are children of young widows with HIV.
- This programme helps the children to have a wonderful environmental education while doing this simple research study.
- The completed report of the children would enlighten the gram panchyats, MLAs and MPs to understand the need to restore and protect the natural common resources so that the river may be saved.
- So far the interests of the sections, who use the river water for making money/profit, dominated the water sharing dispute. But this study report of the children would prove that the priorities of the communities who never used the river water for making income or profit is equally important not only to save the river but also to sustain the ecosystem so that the future of our children is protected.
- One thousand children, hundreds of poor community groups, in four southern states in the Cauvery river basin would have a good opportunity to unite together forgetting the boundaries of caste, state, district, language and religion. The only binding thread is the nature that gives life to all. And all this would become reality because of Green Sparrows – the children of the basin!
